Hi,

The previous occupiers (or previous previous occupiers) went overboard with telephone sockets and so far, i've found 5 in the lounge, 3 in the main bedroom, 2 in the spare bedroom and 3 in the study.

Now, i believe that NTL used to be the supplier of TV and phone but this hasn't been for the last 10 years at least. Do you think it would be OK to remove all of the phone sockets without causing any kind of service disruption? So far, I've only tested a couple but there has been no dial-tone from any of them.

From what i understand, no-one on the estate uses NTL.

There are also several brown wall boxes all located at window sil height, presumably functioning as junction boxes for the TV service. Do you think it would be safe to remove these? The only one i'm not thinking of removing is the master box which is located in the lounge.

Thanks in advance, Kev

Ask sally  ,sorry could not resist it and i know you have probably heard it a millon times before :D

:D

Thanks for that! I've asked Sally and i've even asked Rosie but she doesn't know either.

Hopefully some non-Coronation Street character can help me?

I have no idea what was going on. Maybe they like the sound of phones ringing. Or they were very, very, very deaf.

Back to all seriousness, can i rip them out?

If they are indeed secondary sockets and you disconnect them from the master socket first before cutting any cables, then yes.

They'd have a job on. NTL no longer exists, and all cable services in this country are now run by Virgin Media. They bought every cable provider (there were only 2 AFAIK)

ntl and Telewest were the last 2 left after mergers and acquisitions throughout the 90's & 00's - the deal was structured so that Telewest acquired ntl and the new company(ntl-telewest) bought the rights to trade under the Virgin brand.

Maybe the earlier owners worked for ntl (or Nynex as it probably was then) and wanted to practice their installing at home!
