Hello,

I have an old Satchwell dial thermostat, the bi-metallic strip kind. It works, however, in an attempt to be as efficient as possible I was testing how accurate it is in operation, and it seems that it has a very large operating window at a given temperature.

If the heating is on, and there is a room temperature of around 19-20 degrees, the thermostat does not seem to de-activate the pump until I manually turn it below 15 degrees. I have never actually noticed it de-activate the pump itself. It always seems to need a manual nudge.

So, my question: Is it worth just replacing it with a new dial thermostat.

Or, by their very design are they all inaccurate to the same degree?

I am also considering a basic digital thermostat but need to work out the wiring.

But do not want to splash out too much as am renovating next year...so it all depends on how much of a saving it may give me (if any at all) due to grater accuracy.
