Hi Guys,

What's the average thickness of multifinish plaster? I need to know what amount of overlap I need to leave when installing my door casing. This is so that the plasterer can plaster up to the door casing.

I would have thought a double coat onto plaster board or render would be 5mm. Is that right?

Onto base plaster usually 2 coats.
A skim coat onto plaster board they only do one coat.
About 3mm I would say. Usually you stud out the wall, bang in the casings, overhang ends up being 2 to 5mm.
If a slight gap is left after plastering and architrave, just caulk around the edge.
Its more of a problem for architraves is the plaster is proud.
One occasion I ended up with no overlap so I had to put the architrave on first and they plastered up to it !
Standard casings are sized to work with planed 3 or 4 inch timber and 12mm plasterboard on both sides in my experience.
Simon.
