I have two problems with my Thomas Dudley Vantage Dual Flow Concealed Cistern. The first problem is that it requires several sharp presses of the flush button for the flush to work. The second problem is that the cistern overflows into the toilet bowl after refilling for a few minutes then stops overflowing. Can anyone tell me how to rectify these two faults?

check to see if the push button, is making contact with the syphon, there may be two rods that go into the top of the syphon.

the water continuing into the cistern sounds like the valve is not closing straight away. how old is the unit? there maybe some sediment on the rubber seal.

I believ the push button to cistern connection is pneumatic through quite small diameter plastic pipes. I should check these for fit and air-leaks. Can't help on the cistern overflowing. (I have one of these contraptions, also about 4 years old.)

Scale buildup on the flush unit makes them stick and leak. Remove and soak in a descaler, also clean the exit waterway. THen wash in soapy water and try it.

Is this the one you have?

If it is one problem will be the bellows in the chrome plated push button could have split.

The other problem will most likely be the inlet float valve not shutting off properly

Try them direct

Yes this is the cistern I have. How do I check the condition of the bellows and if faulty how do I replace it? Many thanks in advance.
John.

You undo the nut from the rear of the push button, then look at the button, you will see it is in 2 parts the thread part should come away from the button part.
You may have to twist or gently tease it with a screwdiver to start it off. Note the onus on gently.
once removed you will see the bellows inside, just examine for any splits.

As said if they are split you will need to phone thomas dudley for replacement bellows, they are around £5 but they may send you one foc.[/b]

Hi Wicked Wizard,
The bellows is OK. I think I have found out what the problem was by pure accident! I have put the green plastic tube and clear plastic tube connecting to the cistern back on the opposite way round and the cistern flushes perfectly and dosn't overflow! The system is a Dual flush and must have been connected up incorrectly.

John.

We had one of these fitted about 5 years ago It has never flushed properly and has always leaked! It was replaced about a year ago and the new one is excactly the same. It is a peice of rubbish that should have never passed the tests to be able to put it in production. I have spoken to the manufacturers who refuse to admit there is a problem and advised that the rubber seal needs periodic maintenance!!!!!!!!!!! The whole concept of this type of device is to save water, its a joke and it should never be allowed. My advice to anyone thinking of fitting one of these is DONT! it dosnt flush and it will use a lot more water than a conventional system
