We are about to tile a kitchen floor.

Behind the back door is a trapdoor. It currently has a a metal "frame" around it which sits neatly on top of the existing laminate.

If we plywood and then tile the floor, will we refit the metal frame over the tiles or just leave the tile edges bare and unframed? I imagine that it would look better without the frame but that the tile edges may be brittle if trodden on?

We have not yet decided on a floor material between slate and ceramic...

Thanks,
Brett.

ask your supplier, you should be able to get an extrusion specifically for the tiles you choose, something that is the same thickness and will protect the edge. I would theink the edge will have to be protected.
Is there a reason for the trap being at the door? If not then maybe you could eliminate it and put a new hatch under one of the appliances inshots.
