Hi Folks
Recently replaced Cam belt with new belt and tensioner pulley. I followed the instructions in the Hyanes Manual but now after some 8000 miles there appears to some whining noise coming from the belt. Is this belt under / over tensioned and if over tensioned what problems do I face? Many thanks for all your help in advance.

whining noises usually mean either

1. belt over tensioned

2. tensioner or water pump bearings on't way out.

not good. may last a long time, but if 1, teeth break off the belt leading to failure. or 2, bearing collapses leading to failure.

hoe did you determine the correct tension, twist it 90 degrees by any chance?

What it a genuine tensioner or a gsf / eurocrapparts one?

Many thanks for your replies.

Firstly tensioned the belt by the 90 degree twist method as mentioned in haynes manual!

Secondly the Tensioner was from Euro Car Parts!

Thirdly the whining normally stops after engine warms up! I.e it is not continous and appears to be louder during cold weather then warm and does not always come on!

Many thanks for all your help much appreciated.

the tensioner could well be the problem, cheap chinese bearings in the ecp ones!
Take off the alternator drive belt and run the engine to see if the noise goes, then you'll know which part is causing the problems
