Hello again

Our toilet waste pipe has started to leak at the bottom of the system creating a puddle under the toilet, but the system tank is not overflowing into the waste pipe.
The pipe looks like it’s made out of polyprop with a polprop nut at the join, can any one advise me of what the problem might be?? Is it worth emptying the system and trying to undo the nut to see if a new washer is required.

Thanks from a stressed non plumber

Drain the cistern down, undo the nut and wrap some ptfe tape over the pipe and seal .
Pour some water into the cistern and check for a leak.
If it continues you could apply some Fernox LSX sealant.

Try tightening it first, then, do as you suggest first checking that the washers is seated correctly and clean.

There are two joints, either or both of which could be leaking.

Does the leak occur all the time, or only when flushing?

If all the time, then you remake the joint of the siphon (or flush valve) with the cistern. Empty the cistern, remove the flush pipe, remove the backnut, remove the siphon or flush valve and check the condition of the washer inside the cistern. If necessary renew the washer. Reassemble using silicone to fill the gap between the threaded tail and the cistern hole.

If the leak is only when you flush, then dismantle the flush pipe connection and refit with a new rubber washer.
