too-short cables

help please four double sockets on a ring main the trouble is the sockets are mounted into the skirting boards and would prefer then further up on the wall the cable is to short to pull further up can you extend the cable using joint boxes two per socket hope this makes sense we are putting new skirting boards on mdf and don,t want the sockets mounted on then as present

junction boxes must be accessible, i suppose you could crimp and heatshrink but even so burying that many joints seems like asking for trouble.

why do you wan't to move the sockets? one soloution could be to leave the existing sockets in place and spur sockets above them.
 
You could buy a pair of good-quality ratchet crimping pliers (not the £11 pair), some heat-shrink-sleeved crimps, and oversleeving, and some oval plastic conduit.

The reason for the crimps is that it is a permanent joint so does not have to be accessible for inspection (as junction boxes must be).

The conduit prevents your joints being in contact with the new plaster when it is applied. It also makes it possible to draw up cable but this should not be necessary.

If you are fitting new higher sockets you may as well put the at the current standard of 450mm above the floor although this is not compulsory in most cases.
