Trafficking women for prostitiution

I am seeing an increase in women that I suspect may have been involved in being trafficked and forced to work in local brothels

The trouble is they are to scared to discuss their situation, so it is difficult to offer appropriate help and assistance.

I've just had a read through that news article and the last three paragraphs said rather a lot.

Catching the traffickers is one way of tackling it. But reducing demand is another.

In Lithuania, I was asked: "What's Britain doing to change attitudes towards prostitution?"

Or as one case worker asked me: "Why is trafficking so profitable - and why do British men want to buy sex with very young, very terrified women?"

I recall that we had problems of our own less than a century ago. It was not unusual for parents to sell their children as prostitutes just as soon as they thought they would fetch a price. There was no Age of Consent in those days. They were sold to 'procurers', mostly women and ex-prostitutes themselves, who then rented them out.

Some journalist whose name I've forgotten did a lot of the work in exposing this racket but he took a trip on the Titanic and never lived to see the final outcome which was the Age of Consent. I'm not sure he would have entirely approved of this because it tackled a real problem from the wrong end. The major criminals in this racket were surely the procurers. In my opinion the parents would be next and the customers last.

Sorry but reducing demand, although desirable in itself, is not the answer. It is the traffickers and brothel owners who must be nailed. Moreover, even if prostitution is legal in Holland I'm pretty sure that slavery is not!

I'm not sure how you would go about changing British attitudes to prostitution but you could start with some half decent sex education (don't get me started). Why are British men buying sex with very young, very terrified women? At a guess I'd say they aren't, at least not intentionally. Do those who frequent brothels actually know what they'll be getting for their money before they hand it over? Maybe they just go for the cheapest option, rather as one might buy cans of beer. After all beer is beer and, er, sex is sex --- isn't it??? And that's as good an argument for real sex education as any!

Some of the story may be accurate, but the prisons in Lithuania are niether large nor sprawling. If this Guy got 2.5 years, it was not for Trafficking in humans, Lithuanian law carries a MINIMUM mandatory sentence of 10 years for such an offence.

Most of the woman in Lithuania would not be so easily fooled into prostitution nor would they willingly enter into the trade.

The real problem is that Lithuania is an easy target for forgers and there is a massive trade in false papers, as a result many from other non-EU parts of Eastern Europe, such as Romania, Hungary, Moldova, Ukraine etc enter prostitution to pay for the papers in the misguided belief that once paid for they will be free, the reality is somewhat different.

I know literally hundreds of people from Lithuania, male/female, Lithunaian or Ethnic Russians, and all will tell the same story.

Freddie - snuff movies are said to be films of a sexual nature which ends with someone being murdered for real.
I'm not sure whether these films are real or just an urban myth though!

I know of one particular lady who was brought here from Eastern Europe (not Lithuania) by a man who promised her a good job in London.
When she arrived here she was forced into having sex in various London brothels.
She managed to escape with the help of one of her 'customers' to Scotland - but the man she was escaping from and his 'contacts' hunted her down, badly beat her and she was again kept prisoner to 'work' and make them more money
To cut a very long story short she managed to get away again - once she plucked up courage to inform the authorities/Police about her situation. She is ok at the moment - but she still lives in fear of being 'found' by these people & is always looking over her shoulder.

Information I have from my colleagues in London is that the problem of women being trafficked into this Country to work as prostitutes is increasing at an alarming rate - and as I said before I do suspect that there are other women I come into contact with who are in similar situations to the lady I described above - there are steps to undertake to help these women if they indicate they are in trouble - the problem is that they are too scared to say anything.

Moz - you are so right these women do provide a service to very lonely men and I'm sure that if a women indicated she was being trafficked/made to work against her will they would report it (probably anonymously) but these women are in fear of their pimps finding out and so say nothing.

Sadly, I feel the problem regarding women being trafficked to work here as prostitutes is going to get worse

Why do you all assume that men who visit Prostitutes are Lonely?

I think you lot know bugger all about the world about you in this respect. I would suggest you speak to Police Officers who deal with Vice issues, you would be surprised to find that most "Jons" are actually happy, married, often middle class, but they are also common from the professions as well, and this does include Solicitors, Lawyers, Police Officers, Doctors etc etc, and the VAST majority are far from lonely.

I'm no expert but I did work with somebody a while back, who was interested in the history of porn, it was his intention to write a book on the whole subject.

A snuff movie is exactly that, the person which doesn't have to be a woman or adult, is murdered not just raped.

He showed us an article from a newspaper in which the F.B.I. raided a site in California, they found bone saws, all sorts of surgical instruments and torture implements. These films sold for more money than any other type.

What I find incredable is that the F.B.I. head, said there is a massive world wide demand for these films.
