tree root table

ive just dug out a poinciana tree stump and ive decided to make it into a table. If all goes well it should make 1 nice piece i am open for any hints ideas products i will need to use etc. Im debarking atm (taking soo long) what natural treatment can i use to stop rot in the wet wood ?? would vinega work thx

I don't think even Norm from New Yankee Workshop would be able to make a table with that thing!

Well he would need to get himself a 'make a tree roots into a table' machine! I have watched loads of his shows and seldom seen him use hand tools.

I am not saying he aint a fab machinist, but if you wanna cook along with Norm then you need a machine for everything!

For the prevention of rot you may want to look into a compound such as one containing disodium tetrahydrate octaborate. Once the powdered is mixed with water it is then used to several things such as kill off the stages of brown and white rot, rhizomorphs, decay fungi of all sorts really. The added bonus is it's also used to a small degree as a flame retardant. The trade name for it in the states is Tim-Bor but I bet you could find something like it here. Simply search for Borates.

When applying the liquid keep it away from any other plant life or it will kill it.


It is very low in toxicity and to be perfectly honest you would have to ingest a VERY large amount before it even consider causing any harm and therefor well suited for your application in the home.
