Probably old issue, but i am about to put TRVs on some rads and note they are reversable. Is it best practice to put them on the flow or return side of a radiator. I note on here that some say that if they are on the return side it can result in a bit of noise when they close. What is best@

Reversible means they can go on either pipe! 
Put them on the flow.
