Is there any reason NOT to use a tumble dryer (condenser type) and a chest freezer on a very short pile carpet?

Or should they only be placed on a solid bare or tiled (or linoleum covered) floor?

I'm trying to save the expense and hassle of replacing a short pile carpet in a room where the above items will be used.

A good idea. :)

But is there any reason NOT to put them directly onto the carpet?

the carpet will be damaged by the spot-loading

the carpet pile will interfere to some extent with movement of air.

the dust will be very thick

Good points, thanks.

Not too worried about damaging the carpet to be honest as it's a case of pull it up and replace with tiles or lino, or leave it down to save the hassle and expense of removing it, laying tiles, etc.

Cant speak about the dryer.

But the freezer has been designed to have airflow, round & under it.
By placing it on a carpet it will probably sink & you will lose half the airflow, especially if its up against a wall.
Whilst the freezer will still work, it will need to work harder & hotter.
Just place the wheels/rollers/feet onto a solid surface, you wont need to remove all the carpet if as you say its a short pile carpet.

A good idea - I'll just chop out a section of carpet. Thanks. :)
That wont help if you chop it for the wheels, the air needs to be able to enter from the front/sides, with the gap the manufacture specified.
The instructions would say somethink like place on a solid surface, do not restrict airflow.
