Does anyone know for sure whether two dimmer switches can function on one circuit without causing problems?

If not, are there any ways to overcome the problem?

Thanks, Andy

In all my years as a sparky i've never come accross this one, but the answer would be no, at least not using standard dimmers - you can have a two-way dimmer, whereby you have a dimmer and a two-way light-switch, but not two dimmers.

The second switch would switch the light on at whatever brightness is set at the dimmer.

You can buy very posh (and expensive) lighting controllers that may let you do it (though i've not seen one), but they cost a packet.

as you were told on your origonal post you cant have 2 ordainairy dimmers controlling the same light, you can how ever get a master / slave set up, but i think they are more hassle than they are worth if the queries we get on this forum about them are anything to go by
