underfloor heating

i've got an error message on my thermostat on my underfloor heating. It says external failure. Its a warmup x-stat. Can i just disconnect the floor sensor thats wired into the stat to get it going temporarily?

EDIT: The XSTAT will not work unless a probe is connected and it is returning a valid result (resistance).
It may be possible to program the XSTAT to only have air temperature detection. It depends on the model..
