Hi,

I need some advice. We have an issue where there is a steady stream of cold water in the tundish. We have an Albion Ultrasteel unvented cylinder.

First plumber came, had a look, no investigation, said he'd quote and never did. Second plumber came, again no investigation but tells me that I need to replace the expansion vessel and the PRV.

Is this right? Can they really not do some investigation to work out if they have both failed or is it just one?

Thanks

Mark

If the prv has been open for any length of time then it will almost certainly need replacing. The expansion vessel may just need re-pressurising, but it will need replacing if the diaphragm has failed..

Some prv's fail as soon as they are activated (or tampered with!!). You can't diagnose upstream issues until the valve has been changed.

This cylinder has a Zilmet expansion vessel. Since these are made of ricepaper, it has almost certainly lost the air charge and will need replacing. Did two last week.

Better replace the vessel with a German one, such as a Reflex DE model. Will probably need a new PRV too.
