What kind of price is reasonable for someone to come and fit a door i've purchased elsewhere?

I called a local company for a quote on supply and fit and their cheapest started at £800 which seems a little steep.

Cheers.

I dont know how much a builder/tradesman should charge, but i would have a go myself. Pick a day when the sun is shining. Start early and prepare to be disappointed.LOL

I replaced a window myself that required two courses of bricks to reduce the hole. That was fairly straight forward. I did learn that its not a good idea to squeeze the frame in tight.

Providing the frame you have on the new door is no bigger than the existing one it should be a breeze.Places like 'WICKES' sell plastic strips designed to cover any unsightly gap around the frame.

Tool kit required should be a half capable hammer drill and decent masonry bit with matching plugs and some hefty screws.

Bish bosh...save yourself loadsa dosh. In fact you can send me a tenner for giving you the confidence to DIY.

Good luck

Erm, £10 in the post...i think not!

I have a friend who's in the trade who runs his own kitchen fitting business. He's done doors and used to specialise in windows. Thing is he lives about 180 miles away.

'Hi, fancy a weekend down my way?'

"Yeah ok."

'Great! Bring your toolbox!'

:D

Andy, I'm a bit confused there mate. firstly you ask about price for fit only, but then seem to complain about a Supply and fit price.

Is it a back door or a front door? it does make a difference

For a supply and fit with full warrenty and done by a FENSA regulated company £800 is not totally unreasonable.

For a fit only I would guess about £150 - £200, but you're unlike to get it FENSA approved - which technically can cause problems when you come to sell on.

Sorry for being unclear.

My thought process on this was that £800 seems a lot of money, when it appears you can purchase a prefectly respectable door from B&Q for about £250.

So then, if i bought the door for £250 and paid 'x' amount for fitting, how much could i potentially save?

See what i mean?

When you buy from WICKES they usually have a comprehensive "HOW TO" leaflet.

I bought my house last year. The french door (plastic double glazed) locking mechanism failed. I looked up the insurance policy the last owner had given to me and was relieved to see it was still in date. However I had neglected to look at the small print that said I had to niotify them of my purchase withing a week or something and now the policy was worthless.......well, only fair I suppose
I still ahvent fixed the door. it can wait till summer now.
