Hi There

Most of the windows in my house use friction hinges but all just fly open, and so there is no marginal opening amount, they are either completely closed or fully open. Is there a way to repair these hinges such as greasing them?

Thanks

There's a little brass grub screw in the plastic slider block in the hinge that you tighten up to increase friction. Don't overdo it or the block can split.
By all means grease the hinges, but use silicon grease (from plumbers' merchant) rather than mechanics grease. The latter makes some plastics disintegrate.
