I need to drill holes to attach newel posts (90 mm x 90 mm) to deck joists (45 mm). I think it would be ideal to clamp the post in place and then drill the holes in both the post and joist at the same time but I don't know whether the "twirly bit" (as my mum calls it) is long enough on a 10 mm wood drill bit (I don't think it is). Should I use a spade bit for this? ToolStation has this nice long one.
Also, for M10 coach bolts, I should use exactly 10 mm holes? I figure so, but sometimes I figure wrong
