using yacht varnish as a form of splash back

I dont have the skill or the money to install fancy splashbacks. Is it possible to paint the walls and then put on a few coats of yacht varnish? Will this be sufficient to keep the walls safe? THanks. Or do you have another easy and cheap idea to help me out.

Any gloss paint will work, but you've got to get it nice and flat or it'll look awful.

have you thought about stiky back plastic you can get it in all colours including silver
and in many patterns including tiles
