A friend has these switches in the stairway of the flats where he lives.

When you press ground floor switch in the light comes on for prescribed time but when it switches off the centre bit of the switch shoots out onto the floor.

It seems simple enough to screw the threaded end of the centre bit back onto the main body of the switch but just couldn't get screw to bite onto thread.
Is there a knack to putting these back on?

Tried taking centre bit off another switch to make sure thread not knackered and now can't screw that back on.

Have you taken the front of the switch off to look behind?
In my experience, these switches have a locknut holding the actuator into position, as this has probably come off, it will be lying in the bottom of the back box.

Shouldn't the landlord be looking into this, not the tenant?

Thanks for that, thought it would just be an easy screw back on.

The landlords a bit of a lazy sod but he can get get his electrician to sort it
