I have a Vaillant VCW GB 282 EH combination boiler.

When the central heating switch is turned on (and thermostat correctly set) the burner fires up then switches off immediately so I never get any heating. The fan also runs continuously. Hot water still works fine under all settings.

If I reach in and activate and hold the micro switch by the diverter valve the heating comes on and works, heating up the radiators. Once I let go of the switch the burner turns off again and the fan keeps running as before.

If anyone has any ideas or experience of how to fix this problem please then that would be very helpful.

I suspect that you are operating the hot water demand switch so that the boiler thinks there is a demand for hot water!

Because the diverter valve is not being activated the heat goes to the rads.

Its not possible to exactly diagnose faults over the internet but my expectation is that the problem may be gas related and if so would need a gas registered engineer.

Regret if the diverter is not operated, heat cannot go to the radiators. The OP must be tinkering with the diverter to operate it to let water to the rads.

Because the diverter valve is not being activated the heat goes to the rads.

This is one boiler where the heating side is closed at all times until a heating demand is in place and diverter unseats to heat the rads.

Tony looks like one of us is getting forgetful. Most likely me- my wife keeps telling me I am getting senile
