Vaillant Ecomax - condensate leakage

Watch out for a possible cause of condensate seal failure on the back of the Vaillant HX. I had one of these (on a Glow Worm - when the HXs still had Rabbits on!). Dunno whether the Vaillant HX fixings are identical.

Glow Wom specialist engineer said that this problem COULD be caused by the flue being misaligned. If it was 'pulled' into place using the turret screws it could move the whole HX upwards and cause the bottom of the seal behind the HX to start leaking.

Vaillant technical gave a similar excuse for the seal failures between HX and condensate collector. They said it was caused by excessive downward pressure on the collector from the flue, typically arising due to fitters drilling holes in walls for conventional downward sloping flues and then realising that condensing flues must slope upwards and trying to adapt the hole by forcing the terminal upwards and the inner end of the flue downwards. I don't buy it.
