Vaillant Ecotec plus 831 - swapped diverter valve, now no CH

aav is auto air vent on the pump, isolation valves switched on?

Thanks Harold5

Anybody know how I check this on a Eco Tec 831?

Have also wondered if I need to bleed the boiler (ie the pump, but dont know how?)

Cheers

I think I understand now what you guys mean by aav - is it the small black thumb cap on top of the pump?

If so - is is not tight, but how tight should it be?

Cheers

It should be loose to allow air to escape

Lightning - I have just checked that and it is indeed loose - I turned the thermostat back up and the CH flow pipe again gets very hot but return pipe is cold.

8.4 Test programs
Special functions can be triggered on the appliances by
activating various test programs.
These programs are given in detail in the
Table 8.5.
• The test programs P.0 to P.6 will be started when
“Power ON” is turned on and the “+” key is pressed
for 5 s. The display shows “P.0”.
• Press the “+” key to start counting the test number
upwards.
• Press the “i” to operate the appliance now and to start
the test program.
• Press “i” and “+” simultaneously to exit the test programs.
You can also exit the test programs by not
pressing any key for 15 minutes.
Display Meaning
P.0 Bleeding test program. The heating circuit and hot
water circuit (combination boiler only) is bled via the
automatic air vent (the cap on the automatic air vent
must be loosened).
P.1 Test program where the appliance is operated in full
load after successful ignition
P.2 Test program where the appliance is operated with
minimum gas volume (ignition gas volume) after successful
ignition
P.3 not available
P.4 not available
P.5 Test program for the safety temperature limit check;
appliance heats up by by-passing a regulating shutdown
through the flow regulator until the shutoff temperature
of 97 °C is achieved.
P.6 Filling test program. The diverter valve moves to the
centre position

So I have set it up to go through the bleeding test program.

Do I just leave it to it - It makes a noise and then stops and all the time I am doing it, it either flashes HP or SP -is this normal?

It has completed bleeding test program and still no change.

Any Ideas?

If it is as Lightning suggested, and I have air in the system - What is the best way to troubleshoot this - initially all rads needed bleeding after filling, but now they all just bleed water so I am unsure where to go.

If they are turned parallel to the pipe they are open. And just to confirm the isolating valves on the flow and return are open too?

This is the bit I am not 100% confident of (because I have been messing about with it for over 24 hours, and I am now starting to doubt myself)- the flow out pipe is getting hot right up to the point of going up into the ceiling so I can only assume that is open and the other is in the same postion.

Also the tail rail in the bathroom which does not have TRV's are turned fully anti clockwise on both ends is that correct?

The flow and return service valves are open when the line marking has the same direction as the pipe.
