Occasionally the network on the VSmart does not seem to be able to connect. In the event that this could happen for a considerable period of time I was wondering about the following.
The heating I presume would be okay as I think the programme may be stored locally either in the room stat or the VR66 but correct me if I am wrong on this.
The other option that could be a problem is the DHW cylinder. I have recently installed a Vaillant cylinder sensor. I was hoping that this would give some indication of cylinder temperature on the mobile app but it doesn't. It does on the boiler diagnostics but as I only want to turn it on when needed i.e. after a significant temperature drop it isn't very useful. Instead I installed a wi-fi surface sensor near the outlet of the cylinder and this works quite well. There is quite a significant degree of stratification on the 300Litre cylinder.
I was wondering if there is an easy way to bring on the DHW should the mobile app not connect. If push came to shove I could always use the immersion heater in the cylinder but I wondered if there was an easier way.
So far operating the boiler this way has significantly reduced my gas usage rather than it cycling on/off nearly every time I run a hot tap.
