Any advice on what the problem could be and cost of fixing would be great - I'm brassic and don't want to be ripped off when I call someone out :(

It's a valiant boiler and has played up before and I can't for the life of me remember how we fixed it.

Basically it won't fire, no hot water and no heating. The pilot light is lit and stays lit.

We've tried everything, I'm just terrified of calling someone out and being told we need a new boiler! :(

Any ideas appreciated, just some guidance to know a ball park figure for repair depending on problem would be great too.

Thanks

Sorry, I posted in a rush  :p

It is a Vaillant VCWGB221H, the GC code is 4704414, it is a gas central heating boiler.

This started happening yesterday, has happened before (few months ago), all that happened was the water pressure had dropped, just let some more in and it was fine.

Have tried that this time and it hasn't worked.

No heating, no hot water, pilot is lit but boiler isn't firing.

Did notice the other day that boiler was making noises like it would if the hot tap or heating was on, though hot tap/heating was not running.

We're not too used to the system as only moved in four months ago and house was empty, so we couldn't ask for a crash course in how to operate it from the vendor.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks Kev. You won't believe this.

*holds hands up*

An engineer just came round, only lived about half a mile away, with his young mate - was here within half an hour of calling.

Took the front off, cleaned the dust out etc

Stood back, thought for a minute....

Flicked a switch.

The blooming thing was switched off!

Dog must have knocked the switch, admittedly we didn't even know it was there.

Feel very embarrassed and gave him £20 for his trouble
