I have a 2001 Y reg astra which has picked up the common light on the dash problem. Had continued to drive it for several months like it with no problem then three weeks ago it lost power while out in it and then next day it was ok and it continued like this so on and so on.
Took it to a local garage for them to plug in and fault find, they said it was likely to be the injection pump but didn't have the adaptor to plug it in and therefore took it to a fuel injection specialist, they also said they couldn't plug it in. It has now been to Vauxhall's who say it is possibly injectors and couldn't do anymore until they were changed for new.
I am now three weeks down the line, still without a car and a bit concerned about blindly fitting four injectors only to find it wasn't them as vauxhalls won't guarantee me its them nor will they take them out for a refund if it isn't, I am an HGV fitter myself and in the good old days before ECU I would have found it hard to believe that this fault could be caused by all four injectors simultaneously being faulty but now with electrics I couldn't be sure.

Does anybody have any previous experience and potential
remedies for the same fault because I am at the point of wondering how much money I can put into a car I bought for £1000 and also who to send it to next as 3 different garages have failed to find the fault as well as giving any indication of costs

Many thanks in advance

Hi, is it the isuzu engine? if it is it might be the pump control unit on the back of the engine block, they get dry joints on some of the connections inside. if it is that vauxhall will charge you £1000+ for it when in fact anyone competent with a soldering iron could do it themselves in about 30 mins.

Why dont you change the injectors yourself or are they terribly expensive?

The car experts always tell me that they usually dont fail but just get dirty and the fuel additive for injector cleaning can help greatly but to use it in far greater concentration like putting it into a quarter full tank rather than a full tank!.

Whats the stated cause of the error light?

I used an Astra diesel but that was "R" reg and I think they changed a bit after that.

Mine had great difficulty passing the MOT on account of fuel emissions.

Wouldnt it be worth a £5 can of injector clean if they could be the cause?

What triggers the light???

used to remove 1njectors, get em tested for a f1ver.

1 bel1eve th1s st1ll happens? b1t dearer 1 suppose.

try cleaning out the egr valve with carb cleaner inside,if symptoms persist try unplugging the airflow meter multiplug the drive and see if power returns. 4 injector defects at once is tommy rot...
