Further to my question about my wet lawn, I have been digging in the wide borders and notice that on the one side of the garden they are very wet and seem to have a lot of clay.
Is mushroom compost safe and any good to break the clay down?
What about me adding sharp sand?

do not use mushroom compost to break down clay. it is too fine and will do nothing apart from sit there get damp and stink to high heaven. Use a decent ground conditioning compost and a bit of sharp sand to do the job

Hi

you need to get some good organic matter in the beds. the local stable should be your first port of call
