Hi all

My father is worried about the above problem

Hes noticed warm water in the cold tank in the loft

Any idea what could be the cause of this?

Apparently they put the water on to warm and also mentioned the overflow pipes had water comming from them I think (not 100% sure)

They have a back boiler type system if that helps which I think then warms the water and is stored in one of the bedrooms

Have no idea why the loft would have warm water in it

Any recommendations in laymans terms what could be the problem ?
Thanks for any pointers

No I dont think the cistern is lagged at all

The only thing I think that is lagged is the hot water water storage which I guess is 6ft or so below the cold water tank

Is there an immersion element in the top of the cylinder? is it turned on?

If yes to both then it has failed and needs to be changed ASAP.

The cold water storage cistern should be insulated, as should the pipe work within the loft area. Also the underside of the cistern should be seated allowing for air to circulate below. This will help prevent undue warming.
