Hello all,

If anyone has any suggestions please fire away...

I noticed a few weeks ago that I couldn't actually see the pressure indicator line on the boiler but it seemed to be working fine and I literally couldn't work out where it was (too high & off the scale/ too low & off the scale or just me being a bit blind in the bad light) so I left it & figured I'd get it serviced in the spring/summer as it was currently running ok.

Anyway, all is fine, plenty of heating & hot water (comes at a trickle which is normal but works) and then last monday I put a wash on, go to hang the stuff on the radiators afterwards and they're not on, so I put the timer on a bit earlier than usual - nothing! I check the water, water's fine.

I figured I'd take a stab at repressurising the system, as any time I've had problems (red lights) with the boiler up until now, it's been lack of pressure rather than too much, so I open up the valve but there's absolutely no response.

Long story short - I eventually have time and get hold of a plumber and he identifies that there's too much pressure and it's basically at the same pressure as the mains, which is why the valve being open does nothing. So he bled the nearest radiator for a bit and we got the pressure down to the correct level. I set the heating to come on and it fired up (as it had been trying to do every hour or so since it stopped working) but it lasted a bit longer before making an awful death rattle noise somewhere towards the top of the boiler and cutting off. The plumber threw up his hands and said I'd need a Vokera specialist at that point. That's the best it'll do now for CH - the pipes have been cold for exactly 1 week and no amount of 'turning it off & on again', resetting or selecting Auto or On makes any difference.

At no point has the boiler indicated (red light etc.) that there is actually a problem. At no point has the HW failed to work when called for (thank goodness).

Any ideas I can try? I'll obviously call Vokera and get some advice/ numbers for specialists in my area off them if I can but I figure anyone I call during this stupidly cold snap is going to happily pile on a cold-weather sur-charge (which of course is reasonable, as it's bound to be their busiest 'emergency' period), so I'll manage with an electric heater and a hot water bottle until quotes are likely to be a bit more reasonable.
