Hi,

I have a vw polo 1.2 2002. The display lights have flickered off for a while now. They just switch off for a split second and then back on every now and then. It never bothered me before as it seemed harmless enough, but i am now selling my car and obviously to a buyer this doesn't look good. I've recently had the timing chain replaced (thanks guys who helped diagnose on this site) and also replaced the battery, but as ive said it has always done this before these issues.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be up? I'm thinking a possible loose wire but not too sure about poking about?

Thanks in advance. :)

Might be a problem with the dash board light dimmer, I say might as the Golf has a similar problem with the adjuster, might affect the polo too!

Hi Kingboy,

Thanks for the reply.

I'll have a look at that. Maybe it's a loose wire at the back.

Also, cause i changed the battery i need a code for the radio. Do you know where i could find that out?

Cheers

First, if you have a VW standard radio i.e. Gamma or Beta unit, have a check through your owners manual pack...sometimes there is a card in there with the code on.

Otherwise, it is a trip to a dealer or specialist car Hi-fi shop (Sextons?) who may/should be able to decode it for you. I don't think there is another way around this.
I do remember once hearing about thieves putting Ford radios into the freezer to reset the codes but i) I don't know if this works with VW units, ii) its a lost of bother to do and iii)I wouldn't want to upset the missus!!!

Hope you get it resolved.
