My VW golf bonnet is not fully locking. Although the release mechanism is holding the bonnet down it is not fully closing (approx. an inch from the seal). It is showing up as unlocked on the dashboard car monitor. The metal loop on the bonnet cover is not engaging with the locking devise and therefore is not fully sealing/locking the bonnet. I have attached a picture to show the devise.

Is this a common problem? If this is a part problem that can it be bought and fixed by DIY? Is it a mechanics/garage job? View media item 48679

Yes it's closing on the safety catch.

Try pushing the release handle in the car, back in. If that works put a bit of oil/grease/wd40 in the catch.

I see the bolts for holding the catch on, loose? Might want to tight them, first.

Hi Myrdal cheers for the info, I also went to the vw forum and searched on there
And saw a similar case got the advice about how to remove the catch from the grille and give the lock a general clean up/ lubricate and also the catch, works a treat now
