W/M Zanussi Nexus FL1084 - Selector Dial problem

The programm selector dial is no longer in sync with the markings (letters) on the clear dial. Please could someone suggest how this could be corrected...the washing machine still works, but we have to guess where to start the dial.

ps. why do kids put more washing in basket when they know the washing machine is playing up

The centre knob should have a small hole on the front with a plastic peg in the middle. You push in the peg with a small screwdriver and turn the knob anticlockwise to release it. There will now be an inner knob held on with a nut, which also needs to be removed. The indicator part can now be rotated so that its 2 tenons, 1 thick and one thin are in line with the slots in the arms of the inner knob when this is refitted. You will find that the inner knob only fits in one way as there are teeth etc. on its end face. It is possible that the arms have broken off the inner knob in which case you will need a new one, part No. 1247420001.
