Hi

After some general ideas as to companies setting wage rates...

I've began the 2330 L2 Course, currently in Yr 1 & am hoping to be offered a position as an Apprentice (On a Mature note as am 34) with a company in South West in New Year. I've taken a look at the JIB Site & have found that their wgae structures comply with ECA also.

Would the company need to be regulated with JIB or other Industry boards to uphold wage levels or is it really a situation of be grateful for what you get offered seeing as it is an opportunity to shadow & learn whilst qualifying?
THanks for any response

The JIB lists all the rates, why not look on the site.

Do bare in mind that these are PAYE / contract jobs, rates and positions.

Self employed tends to be more rewarding, then again I have non pay time such as:-

Surveys
Customer chats
material order and collections
transport
book keeping
vat
tax

and quite a few other issues (like getting money collected) that the shield of working for others doesn't require.

i would go down the self employed route and sort the college out on your own.at least you can clear of if your not getting enough experience.
domestic work is only a small part of being a spark.once qualified you may well get on the phone looking for work and find a six month conduit job on your first call but if you cant bend a bit of tube you cant take the job on.bear all this in mind.
how much are they paying these days?
i got 30 quid for a fifty hour week when i first started!

would get out of bed for less than £15 and hour...

but u have to start some where, avoid working for / training with a company with a limited scope of business.
It takes years to get really good at what you do, at that point do it for your own benfit!

I worked full scope for 9 years, and the wealth of knowledge to be gained is an essential part of your training to be a proper electrician IMO.

I have now gone a bit specialised, but still use that knowledge every single day
