Can someone advise pse:
Small not listed cottage with 15 inch /38mm solid stone walls - old clay tiles set in mortar (no felt) have crumbled. Rafter ends and wall plates rotten/disappeared!
How do I fix new wall plates to the stone walls - there is no internal flat surface to screw in ties - they would show too! Apart from bedding in mortar what is recommended? The old ones (not yet removed) seem to be floating untethered to the wall. Not sure bolts, vertical, through the plates into the centre of wall would do much as mortar mix is old crumbly lime mix.
Thanks
Tom
