I'm building a small pitched roof to run across the front of the garage and porch.

I've but the steel beam in and now need to fix the wall plate. I know that it should be 75mm thick, but does anyone know if I could use a 50mm instead?

Thanks

As Woodstock says, no prob's. We often fix a 100mm x 50mm plate when the need arises, though these can curl away from the bedding mortar more readily than say a 75mm x 50mm plate.

Just be aware that your fixings can only go as deep as the plate. ;)
