hi all

purchased an extending oak table and left in garage for a while, now the top is warped (cupped)

can not really see if but can feel it when you feel over it. the leaf is fine and works ok.

is there anyway of sorting this out?

Thanks

To be honest your only real options are to plane and sand it flat again or rip it into sections and start over. But you are then essentially building a new table.

Where us it kept and how old is it?

its about 6months old and was kept in a cold dampish garage.

to look at, you cant really tell, only when you glide your finger over it.

will a belt sander be ok to sand it flat, and then oil the whole table again with danish oil?

store /use it indoors for 6 months to see how it "MOVES" before you do anything perminant
if it does settle down then wax/polish/oil to nourish and help stop further movement
if not get back to us ;)

I agree about bringing it indoors as to be honest it may get worse when you do. As for refinishing it a belt sander is ideal for the final stage but you really should plane it flat first with a power plane then use the sander to even it out ready for finishing. Trying to take off any quantity of material with a sander only your more likely to put hollows and groves into it.
