Hi all,

Our Zanussi washer dryer has just tripped a breaker in our consumer unit.

When I went in to inspect there was a wisp of smoke in the air and a strong smell

The washer is 4 years old and has never had a problem before.

After resetting the breaker in the Consumer Unit it now starts ok, begins to fill, then jumps straight to draining.

All cables and sockets look fine.

Is it likely to be something in the washer iteslf??? It certainly wasn't overloaded and was only just starting a 30o wash when it went.

I think it tripped during the heating phase. Is it likely to be some sort of heater element?

Any ideas?

EDIT: Just checked the error code by pressing start & reset and got "E84"

Anyone?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but E84 on a Zanussi usually means that the pcb is fried. Post the pnc number on the door sticker.

Cheers Zipper,

The numbers are as follows, not sure which you need:
Product: 914601117 or P6348480

Also I found this through google when it first happened:

E84 "Sensing" circuit on circulation pump triac faulty --- Drain, end of cycle (door open) 8.32
Here: http://www.fixya.com/support/t146599-error_codes
Now after turning on and filling, the washer goes straight to drain and the door lock releases which seems to match up which what that's saying. Does it sound right? and if so is it fixable???

Thanks again

Mike

The E84 error description you found is entirely correct...unfortunately it invariably points to a defective main board. The pump triac is an electronic component mounted on the pcb. You may have a shorted pump which in turn took out the pcb. Either way it won't be cheap.

Bugger!

What's the cost likely to be zipper?

And if I did replace the relevant bits is it likely to reoccur? What typically causes the pump to short?

More bad news I'm afraid http://www.espares.co.uk/part/washi.../1085/15/0/0/566542/configured-pcb-board.html The alternative to a new pcb would be to contact these people & request a quote on a recon board http://www.emwelec.co.uk/ It isn't by any means certain a pump has shorted out. A pcb can fail on all on it's own, but you ought to check all other electrical components before fitting a new one. There are two pumps on your machine; a drain pump http://www.espares.co.uk/parts?k=50278219006 and a recirculation pump http://www.espares.co.uk/part/washi.../15/0/0/561553/recirculation-pump-assemb.html I don't know how confident you feel about faultfinding electrical components, but if in doubt call qualified assistance. If you do want to attack it on your own perhaps the easiest way to go is to remove the pcb & inspect it for burnt components/tracks then send it to EMW for inspection/repair. They ought to be able to identify which component (if any) took out the pcb. Basically any electrical component shorting out can potentially fry a pcb (door switch, motor, pump, element, heater fan, etc). Whatever you decide to do I wish you good luck :D

zipper just a quick question, we phoned EMW about an indesit board but was told they had gone bust by the bloke who answered the phone, you heard anything as the website is still up??

We used to use them and QER, dont know any others as QER hate indesit boards.

No Leccy I haven't heard a peep & it would be a real shame if they have gone under. The site is still active at the moment.

Ive heard nothing I got a cheque back from them on tues last week and it's cleared and it's for a big amount as well.

Seemed odd to me as web site still up and I spoke to them 2 weeks ago, one of other engineers did the call on wed last week and that was the message he had.
Will try when I go back to work
