On many online websites that sell washing machine parts you type in the model number of your appliance click search and it brings up the part details for that model and what other models the part fits.
So if i done a search for a motor for a indesit widl126 it will tell me all the models that use the same motor
How do the online shop get hold of this data is there any catauges available or some thing similar??

Years of experience and also getting the info from manufacturers and distributors.

Not something for the faint hearted to take on. There are some steller people posting on here who can help if you have specific parts or are you breaking a machine.

the full spec and serial number are usually on the front off the machine in the area covered by the door
