Washing machine, whats happened here then?

The (Hoover) washing machine yesterday starting making a loud noise and when I opened it the clothes were covered in shards of cream coloured plastic.

Ive taken the back off and theres mangled bits of metal and loads more plastic dust all over the floor.

Then I take a look from underneath...

Presumably the drum has cheese-grated the rest of the machine?

Questions...

1. How has this happened?
2. It's f*cked isnt it?

Drum support poss snapped and caused it, not uncommon but your right it's , time for a new one.
