Water softener or whole house filter?

None of you have mentioned the advantage of drinking hard water with calcium for bone and teeth formation.

I also think hard water tastes better as well.

As far as washing clothes is concerned rinsing is better with hard water and washing better with soft water. Ideally supply softened hot and unsoftened cold. Thats what I do in launderettes.

Most domestic washing machines which are A rated are now only cold fill,thus having a built in heating element

Shall we ask the manufacturers to create some just for you agile ,so you can carry on with your theories?

Commercial washers as used in launderettes and in house laundries are all hot and cold fill.
