Water Stop Cock Leak

I had to turn the water off in my home over the weekend to fit some new basin taps & I noticed that the water stop cock drips very slightly but constantly as per the pic. Is there a simple fix such as leak sealer or does the whole tape need replacing?

tighten then packing gland nut that is the hex around the base of the handles spindle

If just tightening doesn't work (probably will), then undo gland nut, wrap some ptfe around spindle and then retighten
