My problem is that I have a siphonic wc pan which was operating perfectly until the diaphram split. Thinking that a new siphon would be a better bet than inserting a new diaphram I purchased a Dudley Turbo 88. Cannot get the siphonic action which I had with the old siphon, the pan fills and then drains quickly but not sufficiently to clear the pan.
The old unit had a insert which fitted into the outlet of the siphon, this had a 3/8" dia pipe which fed into the pan, it will be difficult to describe the unit apart from it being some 4 long the same diameter as the siphon outlet, internally there is solid centre with a gap around the centre plug. The system is some 30 years old
Does the turbo 88 match to the siphonic pan? If yes do. I need to remove plugs etc or should I just throw the turbo 88 siphon in the bin and refurbish the old siphon?

The insert you describe is technically called an 'Aspirator', known in the trade as a 'bomb'! Without it, or if its not fitted correctly, the pan will not work! :(

It needs to be fitted in the tail on the syphon, and the domed washer on the tail must give an airtight seal where it sits on the internal surface of the pan. The bomb creates a vacuum in the middle trap of the pan, thus inducing the syphonic action.

If the bomb wont fit in the new syphon then I think you may be as well to refurb the old syphon. (Especially if it only needs a new washer, which are pence! ) If replacement is required, syphons and bombs to suit are still available, but you may need to go to a specialist plumbers merchant, e.g. Lunns. http://www.shop.lunns.net/turbo-syphon-syvac-aspirator-1994-p.asp

Thanks, I refurbished the old syphon with £0.20 worth of plastic diaphram and the flush is now perfect. Throwing the fancy TURBO 88 in the bin.
I now have the only cistern in the UK which will disconnect itself when I whistle!
Thanks again fro the info.

The Dudley Turbo 88 is not a fancy syphon, it's a syphon. It works perfectly, if used for the correct application.

It is bl**dy expensive for what it is, though.
