My mum's TV picture disappeared abruptly last night.: NO SIGNAL, according to screen.

Initially thought the cheap Proline box was at fault, as this a common fault with them.

Actually, it was this:

Silly sod of a builder had removed the chimney and resited the aerial but taken the Amp off the pole and left it hanging upside down....

For 6 months it had been collecting rainwater....

Not the first and it won't be the last as long as tradesmen do each other's jobs.

Well done for locating the fault. Provided one uses good double-screened cable from the aerial, the masthead amp can usually be located in the loft out of harm's way.
