What Ceiling Decorating Is This?

Removed a pillar from the kitchen. Need to replace the hole with plasterboard. But what needs to be done to blend it in with the rest of the ceiling?

What is that type / style of decoration?

Is it something I can do myself or is it a job for a professional? Can it be repaired or will the whole ceiling have to be done?

Hi,
Filling the hole is no problem at all. Simply cut a couple of 2x4 blocks slightly longer than the hole to support the new plasterboard. Cut a new piece of plasterboard to fit the hole and screw down.
You are now ready to plaster the hole. However, the ceiling looks like knockdown (artexed). In my experience no matter how good the plaster job you always see the patch.
I'd recommend scraping the whole ceiling and finish it correctly.
