What could be the cause of my leaking boiler?

I have a Glow Worm Energysaver 50e boiler which has started dripping from just below the burner. Water pipes seem to be ok and there is nothing obvious inside. When I take the burner cover off and dry it out after a few minutes it is slightly damp again without any obvious source. Underneath the burner there is a chamber with what appears to be a vent in the side. This seems to have water sitting in it up to its edge. What is this?

How long since the system was drained/flushed re-filled, and chemicals put in it?

Damage if there has been no inhibitor put into the system.

8 years ago inhibitor was optional, now it's a must.

You should drain the system, fill back up, add sludge remover, leave for a day with the system on, drain, fill back up, add scale remover, leave for a day with system on, drain, fill back up, add inhibitor.

I'm not an expert, but I know boilers being furred up with scale and sludge can cause them to leak.

These boilers are junk and full of design faults. The water cooled burner may be leaking (££££££), the recuperator at the top may be leaking condensate (££££££) or the fan leaking condensate or anything else.

All corgi work to investigate fully. The primary heat exchangers also block up badly and are very difficult to clean leading to very poor ccombustion. Leave well alone and get a boiler engineer in but prepare for the worst.

We've got a number of these early condensers on our patch.

Once they start going wrong it's a nightmare I'm afraid, we probably pull out as many as we repair.
