Hi,

I have a pretruding extension on the back of my house that two surveyors reckon is single skin brickwork - what does this mean?

Someone told me that it means they just have a layer of bricks then that's it - rather than a layer of bricks - some space for insulation then another layer of bricks.

It's looks quite thick to me!

generally you have either single skin, (4.5") twin skin, (9") or cavity wall. this can obviously vary depending on the cavity thickness.

It may be single skin, but it could be dry-lined internally or insulated to give it more apparent thickness. It would still be termed as a single skin wall.

Look at the thickness at any door or window openings, and compare with the sizes mentioned in previous post
