What paint to use on a coffee table?

My father is making me coffee tables out of MDF but need help to achieve the finish I would like! I want a high gloss lacquer finish all over, with the base in black and the top in a sort of marbled finish of black and a colour. Probably sounds awful but have seen this contemporary table in a magazine.
Can anyone help me achieve this please??

why not look at that ronseal stuff that you do patterns in / with?

it was the first time they used the now catch phrase "it does exactly what it says on the tin"

No Probs but it`ll need spraying...and rag-rolling...using a paint like Auto air colours water based for murals on cars etc .......have a google shame you`re at the opposite end of the country, I could probably do it for you
