What's the actual difference between these two PVA products? Both say they are for priming and bonding (specifically mentioning wood), yet the price difference is 5 times. Is it that Resin W gives you a 100% bond whereas the Ever Build PVA only gives you a universal bond (n) ?

Could just be pack size and target market? You wouldn't buy a 5l with a poury lid to glue your match stick model together, much better to have a squeezy bottle with a nozzle.
A lot of these things are dirt cheap to start with, it's all to do with the opportunity to solve someone's problem!
However I do think the smaller pack has some additive as it does seem ridiculously strong compared with builders PVA.
Look at neurofen Vs ibuprofen for another example.

It's like when deciding to get a Steak Bake from Greggs or Steak Slice from the cafe on the corner. They both have some steak in them.

there are different qualities made to different standards what you need is the standard you need without paying the premium for the "name" or small volume surcharge

additives in the wood glue to speed up curing time, how waterproof it is, some improvement to final bond strength (but we're talking low tens of percentages at the most, not doubling/tripling etc).. plus one is likely more dilute than the other straight out of the can. they're the same thing as a raw base material, but are tweaked for different applications by the additives. also consider in terms of economies of scale; far more builders PVA will be sold and used as entire walls are washed with it, not just small areas where wood is jointed, so the volume turnover of it will be higher and the pence per litre lower..

whether builders PVA will be any good for your application; try it! more than likely will be..
