When would a water leak show on the ceiling?

Hi,

I had a water leak upstairs, it spread over a wooden floor and then came down the gap at the edge of the floor.

Downstairs, water came down the wall.

My question is, could there be any water trapped between the ceiling and floor? Would this show on the ceiling below? if so, how long would it take to show?

Or should I call someone in to check? If so, what sort of person would I need? Decorator?

How long ago since the leak? Water will normally show up almost immediately.

So would that suggest that it is OK, and all I need to do is paint over the watermarks on the wall?

I would say so yes. I take it there are no other obvious signs of water damage like a bulge in the ceiling?
