Where to put a newel post?

Good afternoon guys!

I am a new member so please be patient with me!

I would like to know how I should go about putting a newel post on my staircase so I can put a hand rail and some spindles.

Newel post at the top is 65mm x 65mm, I am thinking of putting the same size on the bottom of the stairs but I am confused to where!!

I have uploaded some pictures in a album format. I've named it bottom of stairs.

I would really appreciate the help.
